Naples

The city owes its name  to the greek occupants who in VI century B.C. founded a new city (Nea-polis) not far from an older greek site dedicated to the sea mermaid Parthenope. According to the legend the syren died on the neapolitan shore and was buried there, Through the centuries the city underwent different dominations like the Angevins, the Aragon family and the Bourbons. All of them have left imposing monuments like castles, fortresses, and especially an amount of churches containing some of the best works of italian art in painting sculpture and architecture.
