Herculaneum

smaller and not commercial like Pompeii the city of Herculaneum was buried by the same eruption of mount Vesuvius in 79 A.D., but here a layer mud, 60 feet deep covered the city and when it hardened transformed into hard tufa stone, the excavations have brought up to light a small part of the city. Being a residential area to be visited are the villas that where once overlooking the sea and the whole -bay of NAPLES like the casa dell' albergo or the"casa dei Cervi. In H. is to be seen the original wooden timber of the roofs perfectly carbonised and preserved.
